How long does shipping to the Maldives take?
Air freight into Velana International Airport (MLE) takes 1 to 4 days from most Asian and Middle Eastern origins. Sea freight takes 3 to 6 days from Colombo, 10 to 14 days from Dubai, 12 to 16 days from Singapore, 18 to 24 days from South China and 26 to 32 days from North Europe, transit time measured port to port before customs clearance and local delivery.
How much does it cost to ship cargo to the Maldives?
Sea freight is priced per container for FCL and per cubic metre or 1,000 kg (whichever is greater) for LCL, while air freight is priced on the greater of actual or volumetric weight. Landed cost also includes origin charges, destination handling, Maldives Customs duty and delivery. Avia Cargo Services quotes an all-in figure covering every one of those lines, usually within two working hours.
What documents are required to import goods into the Maldives?
A commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading or air waybill are required for every import, plus a certificate of origin where preferential duty is claimed. Regulated goods need additional approvals: Maldives Food and Drug Authority permits for food, medicine and cosmetics, agriculture and quarantine clearance for plants and animal products, and Communications Authority approval for radio-transmitting equipment.

What is LCL consolidation and when should I use it?
LCL (less than container load) consolidation groups cargo from several shippers into one container so you pay only for the space you occupy. It is the right choice below roughly 15 cubic metres; above that a full 20-foot container is usually cheaper per unit. Avia Cargo Services runs weekly LCL consolidations from Colombo, Dubai, Singapore, Port Klang and South China.
Can you handle customs clearance in the Maldives on my behalf?
Yes. As a licensed clearing agent we lodge import and export declarations with Maldives Customs, classify goods under the correct HS heading, apply for the required permits and duty exemptions, attend physical inspections and arrange release and delivery. Declarations are pre-lodged before arrival so cargo is not sitting in storage while paperwork is prepared.
Do you ship perishable and temperature-controlled cargo?
